If you are interested in commissioning a painting, please get in touch via the Contact page of this website. You will be surprised by how reasonable my rates are!
Although, I always prefer to paint from life,in certain cases I am willing to paint a commission from a photograph supplied by the client. For example, after the passing of a loved one, or in the case of a family portrait including small children (to be fair, you cannot expect them to hold a pose for a length of time) or where a photograph has some other significant meaning. A decision to proceed with a painting is made once the photograph has been accessed for suitability in regard to resolution, lighting etc., and the various options regarding size, support and medium discussed with the client.
Additional information
PORTRAITS (from life) - A visit to the location that the client wishes to use as background is recommended. I will discuss the choice of pose, setting, lighting, clothing etc., with the client to try to reflect something of their personality in the painting. Depending on the time available, a pencil or charcoal sketch or two shall be made as well as photographing the client in the various poses and settings.
Following agreement of pose etc., work can begin on the portrait in the studio. An additional sitting with the client may be required as the portrait nears completion.
LANDSCAPES - If the client has criteria as to time of day, season of the year, weather etc., a visit to the location is required. If the size of painting is not too large (over 20 inches X 24 inches) it can be completed at the site (en plein air) over a series of painting sessions if need be. If the size required is much larger than above initial drawing and block in painting can be done at the location (weather permitting) and the fine detail be completed in the studio.
